Albert is a young, successful lawyer who works for the state judicial system. One morning, his supervisors appoint him as head investigator for one of the most significant cases in his country’s history. Albert is appointed to investigate an infamous Nazi criminal extradited to Poland and awaiting trial. The criminal is Rudolf Franz Ferdinand Höss, the longest serving commander of the Auschwitz concentration and extermination camp.
The encounter with Höss exposes the frightening routine and false nonchalance of the face of evil, and juxtaposes Albert with his private world.
The film is based on the autobiography written by Höss in the Polish prison before his execution.
